Helpline number for registering report of loss of mobile phones

Balurghat August 3: People in South Dinajpur would no longer rush to police station with complaint of loss of mobile phones. The South Dinajpur police have come up with an initiative to sort out this problem. District police authority has started a helpline number where people can register their complaints through WhatsApp or ordinary messages. This drive was inaugurated by the police superintendent of South Dinajpur Rahul Dey at a press meet in Balurghat.

Police superintendent Rahul Dey said, “Today we have launched a helpline number 8509454673 through which   people can register their report of loss of mobile phones . They don’t need to go to police station for this purpose any longer. People can send messages to this helpline number. We will collect information and prepare a database which would be beneficial to find out the lost phones”

Sources said that such initiative has already been taken in some of the districts like Kolkata, West Midnapore and Howrah.

Common people have however, welcomed such an initiative by police. “People have to suffer a lot after losing their mobile phones. They have to face a lot of unwanted questions after going to police station to file a complaint or report of loss of mobile phones. This would surely provide a huge relief to the common people no doubt. It is truly a great move by police” said Chanchal Saha, secretary of Balurghat Truck owners’ association.

Senior district level police officials like Additional police superintendent Md Nasim and DSP Somnath Jha also attended the press conference.
